Why subscribe if you can read the journal online for free?
We are asked this question frequently because it does not seem to make sense to subscribe to the printed version of the journal if you can read the articles for free on the Internet. However, consider these points:
- The hard
copy is the archival version of the journal.
Although
we plan to
continue
publishing
the journal
on the
Internet, at
this time we cannot guarantee the perpetual availability of the
digital version.
- To conserve server space and reduce download times, our PDF files are optimized for web publishing and do not provide the quality and resolution of the printed version. The difference is small for text and line drawings but is obvious for complex graphics and photographs.
- The
income
received
from subscriptions
reduces our
dependency on
university
subsidies
and thus
strengthens
the journal.
- All new subscribers
receive a free
copy of
our
CD/ROM.
This
searchable
disk contains the full text of all the articles (including tables and illustrations) published from 1961 through December 1997.
We invite
you to
support our
scholarly
and
non-commercial
publication through your paid subscription. Follow
